At the intersection of Holland and South Main streets is an ensemble of Victorian Period houses in Washington, Illinois that I have revisited over the years, the first time in 2009 and the second time at least in 2022. This first house is on the northwest corner of the intersection.

On the southwest corner is this stunning Italianate manse that peeks out from behind the trees and probably dates from the 1870s. Washington was a prosperous town since before the Civil War.

The house below is technically up one block at a t-bone intersection with Catherine and South Main streets.

The real gem of the Queen Anne style in Washington is this house below, which has changed its paint scheme over the years.

On South High Street, one block parallel to the east of South Main, this pumpkin colored house is also a nice Italianate style example.

And we even see the appearance of the Second Empire below.

Like many places in America, there is usually a vernacular peculiarity in small towns, owing to a carpenter who was active at a certain point, and in Washington, there are many round porches like the one you see below on Queen Anne houses.

There is even a matching stable/carriage house in back.

I really like this wood frame Gothic Revival church nearby, which is the Washington Presbyterian Church.
