Ste. Genevieve Roman Catholic Church, Revisited

Constructed in 1880, the current Ste. Genevieve Roman Catholic Church in Ste. Genevieve is the third church on this site, though of course the entire town was once located in a different location. I’ve looked at the church before, back in October of 2010.

The parish dates from 1759, founded by Jesuits from Quebec, but the first log church here was built in 1794, or possibly moved from the site of the old town. A stone church was built on its site in 1835, and apparently the current church was built around it, and then the former structure was demolished when the new one was complete.

The apse and transepts were added later, in 1911. The church has a relic of Ste. Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris (that city’s Pantheon was originally supposed to be a church dedicated to her), as well as many others, some of which were stolen several years back.
