Concordia Cemetery

According to this tombstone-shaped plaque, the roots of Concordia Cemetery go back to some of the earliest burial grounds in St. Louis. Located off of what is now Bates Avenue, this cemetery would have been far out in the country.

The star, of course, is the Walther Mausoleum, which could really be best described as being the topmost portion of a Gothic Revival spire that has been lopped off and placed in a circle in the middle of a road in the cemetery.

Carl Ferdinand Wilhelm Walther was a minister of Trinity Lutheran Church in Soulard, and was originally born in the Kingdom of Saxony. Concordia Cemetery was actually founded by Rev. Walther.

There are also some nice statues on other graves.
